Health News: Irish Men Die Younger

More than 25% of all men who die in Ireland this year will be under 65 years of age. There is a high risk level and general poor health among Irish men in their 30's, 40's and 50's. Professor Alan White of the University of Liverpool says he is worried that young Irish men have a negative attitude to health and exercise along with a poor diet and high alcohol intake. In short: Irish men are turning themselves into health timebombs by overindulging and taking lots of risks while they are young with few or no immediate results. Their bad behaviour comes back to haunt them as they age and their bodies can no longer withstand the assault. This sadly leads to a high incidence of death from cancer and cardiovascular disease. The Professor recommends that all men attend regular health screening. This allows GPs to spot serious health problems before they become dangerous and to provide advice and treatment quickly and effectively. Professor White will speak at the Mens Health conference in Galway this week. Source: Irish Times.
